River view apartment makeover

Back in London after two decades spent abroad

the clients bought an apartment on the 18th floor of NEO Bankside overlooking Tate Modern.,

The flat was new and sharp, in the usual developer’s style: white walls, light timber floors and branded kitchen and bathrooms.

Husband and wife soon realised that, despite loving the views and the location, they did not feel at home and asked our help, wanting to infuse, in their own words, the new flat with “life and warmth”.

The interior design introduced new materials and colours to balance the high-tech details of the building, complement the client's art collection and frame the spectacular views.

We designed bespoke panelling in applewood - which also hides useful storage -  for the cloakroom’s walls.

An oversized round mirror, like a stylised crescent moon, is offset from the wall and lit along its perimeter.

The new tiles are textured and slightly rough to the touch, in contrast with the smooth finish of the oiled veneer.

The partitions between the bedroom, the bathroom and the dressing room are painted the same blue as the curtains', a perfect background for the art pieces.

The client also commissioned us to design a wall-to-wall unit for the husband’s collections of LPs and guitars.

Every detail was fine-tuned in collaboration with the client and the joiner. This made-to-measure piece converted an unused guest bedroom, which enjoys the beautiful view of the Shard, into a very special and much-used music room.

The flat is transformed into a home. There is now talk of intervening in the open space living area, to replace the white glossy kitchen with a bespoke design and converting the triangular veranda into a winter garden and dining room.
