We fondly reflect back on an exceptional achievement of Studio 29 Architects and Interior Designers - the year was 2017 when we were fortunate enough to be honoured with a Gardenista Award, presented by Remodelista. This recognition was a testament to our unwavering commitment to excellence and innovative design.
The winning design was centred around the creation of a captivating and verdant oasis inspired by the enchanting landscapes of South Africa. Our aim was to craft a small pocket of this vibrant country within the confines of a formal courtyard garden. The concept came to life through the careful selection of warm colour backdrops and the inclusion of large-leaved and fronded plants, which evoked the spirit of South African flora.
Beyond its aesthetic allure, this courtyard garden served dual purposes of providing shade and privacy from the neighbouring terraces. We achieved this through a thoughtful arrangement of elements. A dark slate floor grounded the space, while raised flower beds introduced dimension and allowed for the cultivation of diverse plant species. Additionally, the strategic placement of a bronze mirror subtly transformed the area into more than just a garden; it became an intimate and inviting room.
One of the distinguishing features of our award-winning garden was the way it defied the typically dreary London sky - this courtyard offered respite and warmth.
The esteemed judges were particularly enthusiastic about our design's ability to maximise the potential of a small area. By employing strategic elements, vibrant colours, and clever spatial arrangements, we were successful in giving presence to a space that is often overlooked. This accolade confirmed our expertise in utilising colour and design to transform even the most modest areas into breathtaking havens.
Winning the Gardenista Awards in 2017 was a source of immense pride and inspired us to continue pushing boundaries, creating captivating spaces and delivering exceptional design solutions to our valued clients.
